The Cimarron Model 1892 rifle is manufactured on John Moses Browning's patents of 1884, the same patents covering the earlier and larger model 1886 rifle. The 1892 was introduced by Winchester to replace the aging 1873 model and was made in popular calibers proven in the model 1873. Used ARMI SAN MARCO MODEL No.3 SCHOFIELD 2nd MODEL - 5" WELLS FARGO & COMPANY CONVERSION - .45 COLT TOP-BREAK REVOLVER
Built by Armi San Marco (ASM) in Gardone Val Trompia, Italy, this Schofield-pattern revolver follows the 2nd Model configuration with a single-action, top-break design and automatic simultaneous star extraction. The action opens via the top latch for rapid ejection of all six cases at once.
This Wells Fargo 5-inch shortened length steel barrel uses a full-length rib and is roll-marked with period-correct legends: the left flat is stamped "45 COLT" while the barrel lug says "CIMARRON F.A., FBRG, TEXAS ASM ITALY" followed by the Schofield patent dates of "JAN 17th & 24th '65, JULY 11th '65 AUG 24th, JULY 25th '71." with proof/inspection stamps located in the proper areas. The right barrel lug denotes " SCHOFIELD'S PATS JUNE 20TH '71, APR. 22ND '73" with "W.F. & CO'S.EX" beneath it. Fixed sights consist of a front blade and a rear notch integral to the top latch for a classic sight picture.
Construction is all steel with a polished blue finish over the frame, barrel and cylinder, complemented by a case-colored hammer and top latch. The six-shot fluted cylinder and external hammer with a checkered spur support confident handling and operation.
NOTE: Uberti received a contract to make 1000 Colt 1851 revolvers for a U.S. based company called Navy Arms in 1958 with Albero Uberti forming Uberti as we know it in 1959 in the same city the maker of this firearm, ASM, because this area of Italy was rich in iron ore and had the river power of Mella Valley in the Brescia province. Initially, Ezechiele Chiappa founded Chiappa Firearms in 1958 altough it was initially named Armi Sport, followed by Uberti as mentioned above in 1959 with the maker of this Wells Fargo example, Armi San Marco, in 1960 with all capitalizing on film director Sergio Leone's introduction of Spaghetti westerns and exploding the career of some guy named Clint Eastwood. Giuseppe Pietta formimg Fabbrica Armi Fratelli Pietta in 1963 in the same Brescia region producing shotgun parts, then complete shotguns and civil war era reproductions and finally the 1873 SAO models in 1974.............and now you know.
